Make the Road New Jersey (MRNJ)’s growing legal services team offers high-quality pro-bono legal representation in the areas of immigration, employment, and housing law. Our staff attorneys provide consults, direct representation and also strategic support to campaigns. Our client base is statewide, with a specific focus in Elizabeth, Newark, Passaic, and Perth Amboy.

MRNJ represents individuals in a range of immigration cases. Our legal team has successfully reunited thousands of families through immigration petitions, U and T visa applications for immigrant victims of crime and survivors of human trafficking and helped dozens of individuals seek asylum and safety in the United States. Through our innovative clinic model, we have helped hundreds of immigrants naturalize, and renewed hundreds of DACA cases as the program was under threat. Additionally, through know-your-rights trainings and information sessions, our team works with community members to provide education and crucial information on a wide range of legal issues.

Through direct legal representation we have helped low-wage workers recover hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid wages and benefits. We advocate for stronger protections for workers and have helped win some of the strongest worker laws in the nation, including guaranteed severance pay and protections for temp workers.

We work to prevent displacement of long-term residents by stopping unlawful evictions and protecting tenants’ rights to safe housing. We advocate for just city and state housing policies and to support tenants organizing for better conditions in their apartments.
