Founded in November 2014 in Elizabeth, Make the Road New Jersey builds the power of immigrant, working-class & Latinx communities to achieve dignity and respect through community organizing, high-quality legal services, policy innovation and transformative education. Make the Road New Jersey’s centers in Elizabeth, Passaic, and Perth Amboy and hubs in Newark, NJ are welcoming spaces for community organizing, leadership development and legal, health and educational services. Every week, hundreds of immigrant families – young people and adults – come together to fight for dignity and respect in our communities.
In the past year, Make the Road New Jersey mobilized more than 15,000 people to take action in support of immigrant and workers’ rights and to fight back against the federal government’s attacks on our communities. We provided legal services and educational programming to 7,000 immigrant families and won landmark immigrant and workers rights policies in New Jersey.
Make the Road New Jersey is a project of Make the Road States, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
